Ascension Roofing & Siding replaces and repairs roofs throughout Blaine, from the older neighborhoods on the southwest side near Coon Rapids to the newer developments out by the National Sports Center and Lexington Avenue. We’re a north metro company based in Isanti, we’ve replaced more than 700 roofs, and we’ve been doing this since 2007.
Blaine Roofs Are Hitting Replacement Age
Blaine’s median home was built in 1994, with the oldest housing on the southwest side and the newest to the northeast (BestNeighborhood). That matters for your roof. An asphalt roof in Minnesota generally lasts 15 to 25 years, so a Blaine home built in the 1990s is likely on its second roof already, and a 2000s home is reaching the age where the first one gives out. If you don’t know when your roof was last done, a free inspection will tell you where you stand before a leak does.
Hail and Wind in Blaine
Blaine has a long history of damaging hail. On June 11, 2017, a storm dropped so much hail on Blaine and Coon Rapids that Coon Rapids Public Works sent trucks out to plow it off the streets, and homeowners were left with shattered windows and siding full of holes (WCCO/CBS Minnesota). Storms like that leave roofs that look fine from the driveway but have bruised shingles that fail a few years later.
If your Blaine neighborhood has taken hail, we’ll inspect the roof, document what we find with photos, and tell you honestly whether you have a claim. We handle insurance claims regularly and will meet your adjuster at the house. If the damage doesn’t justify a claim, we’ll tell you that too.
Blaine Permits and Code: What We Handle for You
The City of Blaine requires a building permit for all roofing projects, and they’re filed through the city’s online system. We pull the permit on every job, so you don’t have to. A few Blaine specifics worth knowing:
- Licensed contractor required. Blaine will only issue a roofing permit to a contractor holding a valid Minnesota state license. Ours is BC753558.
- Ice barrier at the eaves. Blaine requires ice and water barrier running from the edge of the eaves to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line. On Minnesota homes, that’s what protects you from ice dam backup.
- Layovers. The city allows new roofing over one existing layer of asphalt shingles when the base is sound. We’ll tell you straight whether yours qualifies, though we usually recommend a tear-off so we can see and repair the decking.
- Final inspection by photo plus site visit. Blaine requires photos of the decking, flashing, vents, finished roof detail and the front of the house showing the address. We take and submit those as part of the job.
What a Roof Replacement Looks Like
- Free inspection. We get on the roof, photograph what we find, and show you.
- Written estimate. A clear price for the whole job, not a per-square figure you have to do math on.
- Permit pulled. We file it with Blaine.
- Tear-off and decking check. Soft or rotted decking gets replaced, not covered up.
- Ventilation corrected. We fix attic intake and exhaust on replacements. Poor ventilation is what cooks a roof from underneath and shortens its life.
- New flashing. We replace step and wall flashing. We don’t reuse old flashing, which is a common shortcut and a common source of leaks.
- One to two days on site for most homes, then a magnetic nail sweep and full cleanup.
- 5-year workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material warranty.

Blaine Roofing FAQs
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Blaine?
Yes. Blaine requires a building permit for all roofing projects, and only a state-licensed contractor can pull one. We handle the permit and the city’s photo documentation as part of every job.
Can I put a new roof over my old shingles?
Blaine allows roofing over one existing layer of asphalt shingles if that layer is a sound base. We’ll inspect and tell you honestly, but we usually recommend a tear-off, since it’s the only way to find and fix bad decking.
How much does a new roof cost in Blaine?
Most residential roof replacements run roughly $8,000 to $30,000 depending on the size and shape of the roof, how many layers come off, decking repairs and the material you choose. We give a written price for the whole job after we’ve been on your roof. Financing is available through Service Finance.
My neighbors are getting new roofs from the hail. Should I file a claim?
Get it inspected first. Hail damage often isn’t visible from the ground, and filing a claim with no real damage isn’t worth it. We’ll document what’s actually there, and if you do have a claim, we’ll meet your adjuster at the house.
How long does the job take?
Most Blaine homes are a one- to two-day job, start to cleanup.
Can you replace my roof in the winter?
We don’t install roofs in Minnesota winter. Shingles need warmth to seal properly, and installing them cold can void the warranty. If you have winter damage, we’ll tarp and make emergency repairs now and schedule the replacement for the spring.
