What drives the price
- Size: Fixr puts a small 24 x 36 inch vinyl casement at about $290 to $480 and a large 36 x 60 inch unit at $720 to $1,200.
- Frame material: vinyl is the most affordable; composite, fiberglass and wood cost more but offer different looks and durability.
- Glass: triple-pane glass adds cost (This Old House: $400 to $950 per window) but helps in Minnesota winters.
- Installation type: an insert (pocket) replacement fits inside your existing frame and costs less; a full-frame replacement is needed when the frame is rotted, out of square, or you’re changing the size or style.
Casement vs. double-hung: which costs more?

Downsides: the sash swings outward, so casements aren’t ideal next to walkways, decks or patios. The screen goes on the inside, you can’t use a window air conditioner, and the crank hardware can wear out and usually needs a pro to repair.

Angi puts basement window replacement at about $400 to $1,000 installed. Before labor, prefab hopper windows run about $100 to $300 and casements $100 to $750. Adding an egress window (new opening, well and excavation) is a much bigger job: typically about $2,700 to $5,900 according to Angi and This Old House.
